Eivind Rabben

University of Newcastle upon Tyne and Durham University Business School

Eivind joined Hambros Bank Ltd in1983 from Durham University Business School, where he obtained a M.Sc. in Management Studies following undergraduate studies at University of Newcastle upon Tyne (B.Sc. Marine Engineering). He greatly enjoyed these twin town Universities and student life.  The monotony of engineering subjects was interesting when later compared with the liberal academic freedom of economics, marketing, computer simulation and psychology.

Royal Norwegian Navy/Coastal Artillery

Earlier he graduated from the Officer School, BSKA, followed by 3 years varied and hugely enjoyable service as Main Gunnery Commander, Firearms and Ballistics Officer and a member of the Officer School Selection Board, serving in the North and South of Norway during the late Cold War Years. In his much younger life, he sailed as a deck and engine rating and undertook internships with shipowners, shipyards and pool-operators.

Hambros Bank

Eivind accepted an offer to join Hambros Bank straight from Durham University in 1983. Following a graduate-training programme, he worked in both the Shipping and Scandinavian Divisions. His responsibility was related to a wide variety of lending, structured finance and mergers and acquisitions for Scandinavian and worldwide Shipping, Offshore and Industrial Clients. He was appointed main board Director of Hambros Bank in 1988 and until his resignation in June 1998 to establish EC Hambro Rabben & Partners, was the Head of the Shipping and Offshore Division. In his lifelong merchant banking career, he has focused on the shipping/marine-services and offshore/oilfield-services corporate finance and M&A.  Unusually for a Norwegian, Eivind has studied, worked and lived permanently in the UK for 47 years.

His regrets are not coming home earlier when his boys were young and skiing too little.
